I must say, I’m am incredibly disappointed with the build quality of this FRS SE trem. I own around 20 Floyd Rose Specials produced before 2020 and can quite honestly say there has been a significant change to production quality on these newer units. The precision on the baseplate knife edges is extremely poor and rather jagged looking – honestly, you’ll find better machining on the Wilkinson double locking trem plates than on this. The machining tolerances for the saddles are awful as well. I can slide a thick pick between many of them when installed and strung up. The saddle pin assemblies are also poorly machined. You are able to physically move them laterally by a few millimetres in either direction. The tremolo block shims have also been reduced in size to less than half. They no longer extend to the back of the tuning spring plate like old FRS units or the OFR. This means you cannot surface deck these like the older models. These units also do not come with a lock nut, which would be excusable if the quality was anything like how they used to be, but sadly it isn’t. Spend the very few dollars extra and buy the Gotoh 1996T. That is a very excellent trem that puts this newer FRS iteration to shame in absolutely every way.
