Great deal. Bass wood body ,maple neck .Hot PUs. Neck pocket needed a little tidying up ,nut had to be reslotted. neck alingement right on.Personally chose to upgrade pots and input jack. Intonation right on.You gotta start off with good wood.Half of what it would cost from other suppliers and hardware to boot. I’m not one for fancy finishes so i was playing in 2 days.I’ve been playing and giging for 50 years.Played ’em all. This is a good deal.More than what I expected for my money.Don’t get me wrong it ain’t a $2000 guitar, but for the money, sweet.Take care.

the quality of the guitar was good. nice neck of course you have to fine tune but the direction came whit the guitar is easy to understand. the only thing is the cavity for the 3 way selector is not the right deep i cant screw it in place whit the plastic ring and miss the six screw for headstock tuner if one of those day i buy another diy kit i take it from solomusic gear buy it december 2017 and receve it few days later

Good solid kit for beginners. Neck was described to me as a bit “clubby”. I did not find it so, and am looking forward to finish and play. Pre-fit of parts showed close tolerances on laser cut outs. Was pleased with that, particularly on neck to body fit (will not require shims, etc.) Overall am expecting
this kit guitar will make a great addition to my personal line up.

Just great…. For hand skilled person of course. I need to do a little bit of adjustement for the neck to fit correctly and mine had a little too much angle for an LP, so just remove a little bit of wood to be as i want…. And really fast shipping, i receive it in 3 days…
I will try another model soon, so i recommend it….

Very happy with my Les Paul kit. Build went flawlessly following the instructions. If you’re looking to build a kit, you will be very happy with Solomusicgear.

This was a ton of fun to build! Everything fit perfectly and I think the guitar sounds preyty good. The only thing I would change is that the pots came with some of the connections pre-soldered. I was looking forward to soldering all the connections myself but since this was my first build, my first electric guitar I’ve ever owned, and the first time I’ve really soldered electronic connections, I’m still really pleased and kind of grateful some of the work was done. I would definitely buy another kit from Solo. I just have to decide if the next one is a strat or tele.

It was so much fun to build this kit, and trust me, it sounds awesome!
The neck was perfectly straight, only some minor work needed to make the fret smooth
Body holes were perfectly drilled, all good there.
After lots of work with sand paper and painting, I put the kit together: neck-body was the perfect match! Man, this kit was well done!
Electronics went in like a charm. Colours of the wires were different from the diagram available online, but I figure it out (after some time!)
This was my best project so far, and I am truly enjoying playing it! Pay attention European users, I had to pay about 30 euros extra due to custom. It was worth it though!
I would buy it again with no hesitation (and probably I will!!)

This is my 3rd Solo Guitar build, and I must say, not the best one. I’m not sure if I received a “factory second”, but right off the bat, there were issues. The hole for the wires from the 3-way toggle switch through the body to the neck pick-up was never pre-drilled. This required me to purchase a very long 1/4inch drill to drill the hole myself. A quick call to Solo, and the guys were right on top of it. (excellent customer support).
Next issue, the prewired pots were sloppy. Ground wires and leads were not only shorted-out due to poor soldering skills, but also miss-wired completely. So I needed to correct that.
As for the components, they are woefully substandard (particularly the 3-way toggle switch) which needed to be replaced outright.
The hole for the 1/4inch jack into the body was not completely drilled and needed to be routed-out to seat the jack properly.
So— there was a lot of unanticipated “work” needed on this one before I could get to the fun part of putting it together. The neck— required fret-leveling and end work to be smooth. BUT— it’s a kit, and that’s what kits are all about.
I finished the guitar as I did with my previous Tele and 12-string Strat (see my reviews) —with Keda-dye and 15 coats of Tru-oil, resulting in a beautiful “root beer” mahogany body and neck, with woodgrain that really looks spectacular.
As for stringing and tuning, like before, the supplied strings were only used for preliminary building— then replaced with a good set. This guitar (like all Les Pauls) has serious tuning and intonation issues. These were corrected by replacing the nut – and in this case, also adding a “string-butler” to correct the Gibson-style string path to the tuners (low-end, also an issue with this kit).
ALL THAT SAID— I’m still giving this guitar 5-Stars. Why? Because it’s a kit and I like a challenge. This one took more work than the others, but the end result is a very nice and very playable Les Paul Jr. (It’s not an LP.) Because the body is mahogany, it’s light as a feather and it made a perfect gift to my daughter. And the 24” Gibson scale is more suited to her smaller hands. So–yes, 5-stars.

I recently purchased the LPK – 1 kit. I love this guitar. I only had a few issues.
1) The wiring diagram had different colored wires than the kit. This was easy enough to figure out.
2) The 4th fret was just a bit high on the treble side. Easy fix.
3) I’m a fan of Grover tuning machines so I replaced the ones that came with the kit.
I upgraded the nut and I’ll probably change the pickups.
The fact is, I didn’t want something that would just snap together with no thought or effort so I’m giving this kit 5 stars! The neck is BEAUTIFUL! I’m also giving the service department 5 stars. I would send an email with a question at night and wake up to a reply in the morning. The delivery came within the time frame expected. I then purchased the black Les Paul guitar case with skulls. BEAUTIFUL CASE! Thank you, Solo. It was a great project during the quarantine. I’m looking forward to my next build.

This was my first kid I purchase from Solo. I need to say that I was super impressed with the quality of customer service. The website interface and the organization was incredible. This was my first build and I put it up for consideration of guitar of the month. They put me up on social media and I have remained in contact with them. I can’t stress enough how incredibly helpful they were especially with my first soldering job on this kit. All the parts fit like a glove on both kits I ordered. I can’t say enough about the integrity of the fitting of the necks and how well the products came out. Got a Lotta help from Kevin and I believe Dave. Quality product, friendly staff and extremely helpful made this extremely easy for me and a heck of a lot of fun! I will be building more in the future and I can assure you this is where I’m getting my stock from.

Mostly good, very nice is some ways, a little odd in some ways. It did require a bit of sanding the neck opening, which is better than being too loose. The neck is actually excellent, frets are almost perfect. The way the body was laminated was a little odd, but it doesn’t seem to make a bit of difference. After putting it all together, there are a few things I would want to do differently if I had known. It would have been nice to be able to order just the neck and body, because I’m going to eventually replace all the hardware and electronics. I replaced the tuners with 21:1 tuners, and replaced the nut with the Tusq XL, and replaced the bridge with the roller bridge. I completely re-wired the kit pots and caps, I don’t know what they were wired for, but it did not work correctly. I took everything apart and copied the 50’s style Les Paul wiring diagram and it is SO much better! I have ordered new 500K audio pots, and .022uf caps (it came with .047uf caps), and a new switch (the kit switch wants to spring back out of Rhythm position back to middle). I expect that all to improve the tone even more. I suppose once that is all done I will be replacing the kit pickups as well. This kit is a good starting point, but it does need a lot of customizing and attention to detail to make it an actually playable guitar. It is a very long process of tweaking, rewiring, modification, swapping out, setting up, breaking in, and fine tuning, and in the end it probably would have been cheaper to just buy a guitar at the local music store. This was a lot of fun, and I have leaned a LOT about LP style guitars, and I still have a lot more to learn, so I highly recommend.

my first kit from solo, Test fit everything and found they had forgot the machine head washers, let them know and they sent them right out. one hole for the back switch cover was missed drilled, no big deal rotated the cover and got into fresh wood. Sanded everything down and applied a boiled linseed oil finish as I really like the wood grain. The neck came out awesome, smooth and your hand just slideson it, frets are smooth as well. The wiring diagram was good easy to follow, everything went together great. While adjusting the pickup height I stripped out the threads on the bridge pick up on one side. These are punched and threaded holes, so just used a pair of heavy linesman pliers and smask the hole shut and redrilled a tapped it.
I like the weight of the guitar, it is lighter than my Epiphone LP. I would recommend this kit, easy and it sounds good and plays well.
I got this so I can play with it, change pick ups, switch and pots.

This is my 9th kit from Solo. Yes I am sold! As usual this was a fast and furious shipment with bulletproof packaging. I wanted an affordable kit to practice with my router and angle grinder. This one has no binding so it became my victim. The body looks great and very well cut, the neck is straight, the frets are well done and levelled without sharp edges. The fit and alignment are perfect.
Modifications:
Body, carved an arm rest and belly cut with the grinder. Rounded the pointy horn to Gibson style with the jigsaw. Increased the roundover of the edges from 1/4” to 3/8”and added a middle pickup cavity using a Solo P90 template. Also added wear pattern with files. the proceeding with sanding. Interesting surprize, the area of the arm rest did turned to a flame pattern due to the angle of the top, it looks great, flame mahogany!
Neck, only had to polish the frets, file the ends and rounded the fretboard to my taste.
Electronics, installed 3 Solo A500K push push volume pots for coil splits with independent wiring and treble bleed. 1 Solo B500K tone pot. USA style 3 way toggle switch and Solo 3 conductors shielded cable. install the kit provided jack.
Pickups, Vintage 59 humbuckers neck and bridge with the kit provided mounting rings and a Vintage 59 mini humbucker with a P90 adaptor mounting ring in the middle.
Hardware, Wilkinson Vintage tuners with conversion bushings to fit the 10mm holes, Nashville style bridge with large posts. Used the kit provided Stop Tailpiece.
Finish, made a satin finish on all the chrome including the all screw heads using the 3M Scotch Brite Pads. Applied one coat of black water based stain and sanded off to bring the grain then applied 3 coats of cognac wated based stain diluted with 1/4 water. Finished with 4 coats of flat water based varnish. All using Samans products. Sanded with 3M Scotch Brite pads between each coat.
The final assembly and set up were a breeze. She looks great and plays even better, Very light and well balanced,
Thanks again Solo, your kits are always a lot of fun to build. Great modding platforms.
