This is an excellent kit. The parts fit together very well. Very nice neck and body. The components are of reasonable quality and will get the job done. I would recommend this kit to anyone looking to build a bass.

This kit was an absolute blast to put together. All you need to do is choose a finish and follow the easy step by step instructions. Can’t wait to build another one.

This kit was very fun to put together. It arrived very quickly and all the parts fit properly. I had a problem with the Jazz pickup but the good people at Solo replaced it quickly and the new one works great. I have recommended this kit to a friend who is thinking of building one and was impressed after he played mine.

Bought this kit for my son and we had a great time putting it together. This is the 3rd solo guitar kit that I’ve built and was by far the easiest.

From box to tuning it probably took us about a hour to get it all assembled. The J pickup was soldered to the components in the pick guard, but the wires weren’t run through the body, so we had to snip and solder those.

Minor defect at the neck joint, and there is the slightest variance in where some of the screw pilot holes were, also the E and the A didn’t quite hit center on the pick ups.

Frets were crowned and leveled beautifully, but I will have to sand down the sides as a few of them were quite sharp.

Body has surprisingly great grain and figuring, especially considering the body is basswood. Body is very light and balanced, with little to no neck dive.

All in all a great kit, at a great price. A squire bass which is probably of lesser quality than this kit runs at least $350.

I love this bass! The kit was easy to assemble. Solo customer service was very quick to help me when I called for assistance. I own several expensive basses, I know the sound & feel of a fine instrument. My knowledge and skills in finishing is the only thing holding this bass from being on par with my very nice Fender Jazz bass from the 90’s. I’m tempted to buy another, as I know my next build will be better. Thank You Solo Guitar!

I would give more stars, however yet again the lack of quality control hurts the review. Pre drilled holes is a myth that I will no longer buy into. Some were drilled too shallow. Some were drilled in the wrong spot. Some were heavily splintered or cracking, with one pickguard screw hole breaking off a chunk when i put the screw slightly in. Some holes were drilled far too wide. The pre-routed cavity looked like a beaver had gone through it, it was splintered so bad.

Any fretwork that was done was mediocre at best, but still passable.

I’d also say that the way the pieces for the body are glued together is horrible, but that doesnt matter if you’re painting over it.

This is my third kit from Solo and each time there has been some level of QC mismanagement. Definitely a great starting point, but you’re better off learning how to do it from scratch after doing a couple kits.

A P-J Bass. Jazz pickup arrangement (2) and what appears to me a Precision neck.
The parts were good. The kit is easy to assemble, and the pieces were in good shape.
The pickups were a bit anemic, but that is to be expected at this price, which is about the same as top of the line pick up sets.
Overall, I would recommend this kit and Solo in general.

The bass was very nice other than the lack of instructions and some pieces did not fit, but aside from that this is a very good kit and as long as you have had experience with this stuff or know someone who could help you, I would highly recommend. had lots of fun!

This an excellent kit. The guitar is an great platform to move on to upgrades/experiments. I will buy this kit again.
