Great kit! Perfect for a first build. Solid quality and good components.
With no experience, I was able to complete the build in just a few hours. Fantastic customer service and after sales support.

I bought this kit for my son for Christmas. While I did do a few modifications, for $175 taxes in, I have to say I’m impressed.
Finish: You can see a few minor flaws if you inspect it close, but have to say I’m pretty impressed with the finish. Saves a lot of time with the finishing steps! And the kit is cheaper. Used Tried and True finish on the neck but think I’m going to do it again for him with TruOil after seeing some other folks use it. Can find them both at Lee Valley by the way.
Hardware: Everything seems fine so far. The bridge seemed fine, but I’ve had a Gotoh tele bridge with individual saddles around for ages, so I decided to install that. Unfortunately it was the string through the body type and the mounting screws were in a different location so I had to drill the body and install string ferrules. That was a bit nerve racking with the finish being on already, but a couple of trips to YouTube and some other sites and found a good method to do it. Also, I had some tortoise shell pickguard material so I made a new pickguard to replace the black one. Looks great!
Playability: Truss rod, bridge and the nut will need to be adjusted (default action is pretty high), so if you don’t have the tools for that you will have to find or pay someone to do the setup for you. After I did the setup it plays great!
Electronics: Had a minor issue with the neck pickup (went dead), but resolved it after troubleshooting. I think the connection at the pickup was grounding out, or maybe just loose. Just had to adjust the wire a little bit and everything is fine now. Guitar sounds good! My son is happy!
Debating which kit to get for myself now….

just received this kit today. it is my second solo kit, my first one being a strat. I am impressed. neck was a perfect fit. the frets were really good. I was surprised that the bridge is as heavy as it is. nice. I had a string through ashtray bridge coming already but I don’t need it. maybe i’ll put it on but maybe not. finish is really nice. tuners are great being the same as the ones that came with my strat. I’ve had that about a year and no problems. stable as can be. all in all a nice little git. and I don’t mean for the money. I mean its a nice little git period. my collection is slowly being replaced with solo’s. expensive doesn’t mean much anymore.

Ok. It’s my turn! When I first received the kit, I wasn’t so impressed. I couldn’t wait, so, I started fitting the guitar together with strings just to see how it played. I was instantly impressed. Fresh out of the box and McGivered together in 15 minutes, the guitar played better than any Squier, etc. Pre-fitting is always good, so I feel even ahead of the game. The only thing I had to mod (with drill) so far is 2 screw holes for the keys. Anyhoo, at this point? I’m in all the way to do this puppy nice. I am told that ‘patience’ is critical to do a nice job, so, pray for me. LMFAO…

I haven’t started putting mine together yet, but from my initial inspection of everything I have to say I am very impressed with it. The finish is really far better than I expected. The pictures do not do it justice. It has a very nice glossy finish. I have made note that there are a few things that I will change before I start. Not that its necessary, because the ones included with the kit are just fine. I’m changing these things because it’s easy to do while it’s not built yet. The items are: The tuning machines, the control panel plate and ashtray. With the tuning machines I prefer locking tuners so I will pick up a fairly reasonably priced set. Plus the tuners are a little smaller than I expected, but they would work just fine. The control plate and ashtray I am changing only because I’ve seen some pretty cool looking ones online that were pretty inexpensive. So what the heck, why not spruce it up a little.

Great! Everything perfect on first try! Plays nice and electronics works better than I expected. Finish is great, neck is awesome. I did find it a little heavy but not a big issue!

Next one will be for me to finish the painting and everything else! 🙂

Hi, nice and easy kit to build, nice finish. This is ma second kit, and for someone like me that has not to much money to spend, this is a nice compromise from bying the real thing. And from time to time, like I did for ma fisrt kit, I will buy the real Fender electronic and different part to make it as close as possible of the real thing. For the time beeing, it plays nicely and I have fun playing as is ans evenmore, I had de plaisure to put it togeder my self.

I was extremely impressed with the quality of this kit. I’ve owned & played a lot of expensive guitars, and now that I’m older I just wanted something fun to play with around the house. Everything fit nicely, all holes were lined up perfectly. I do my own setups, and this guitar setup up very nicely. They neck feels great, and the pickups sound very, very nice. The bridge pickup has a power rockin’ rhythm tone, and can get twangy for leads. The neck pickup has that “F-like” sound that I wanted (needed, lol), and when both pickups are used together they deliver a really sweet quack/chirp. I decided to upgrade the tuners and the nut, but that would not have been necessary in order to have a gig-worthy guitar. The body finish is super well-done, and I’m not messing with the controls, jack or pickups at all. They are all of very good quality and I don’t see a need to change them out at all. In fact, the overall quality of this guitar is better than many ‘lower tier’ factory-made guitars I’ve owned over the years. The frets were well leveled and dressed, leaving no buzzing or fretting out at all. It even had rubber washers for the strap buttons, spacers (long and short) for the string trees, and a nice neckplate ‘gasket’. Some really nice touches that I wouldn’t have expected to come with a kit for this price. I did some very light sanding on the back of the neck and headstock, then applied 4 coats of Tru-Oil, buffing each coat VERY lightly with a gray ultra-fine Scotch Brite pad. With that little bit of work the neck looks like it came out of a factory. I let it cure for 7 days before assembly. Truly, when you look at this guitar it looks as nice as a store-bought Telecaster.

How can you go wrong. I’ve purchased this kit about 16 times and have never been disappointed. I use them as giveaways at concerts and I have to say that after they are all assembled and set up, you couldn’t ask for a better guitar for the price. I’m just about to order 2 more. I wish that there were frequent flyer miles involved.

What’s not to like about this kit. The finish on the body is great, the neck is super smooth and the fret work very nice, leveled and dressed. I used 400 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the poly sealer and used Tung-oil to finish the neck with 4 coats. I shielded the cavities with copper tape and put it together. I did a low action set-up on it and it sounds great! I was wanting that Nashville Twang and this has it in spades, when you want to rock, turn up the gain and add a little more reverb and/or some distortion, and there you go. I am impressed how well this guitar plays and sounds! I bought this kit through Amazon, I should have bought it direct from Solo and saved $10, but hey, not a problem. Overall I’m very happy with it. Looks great, sounds great and plays great and doesn’t break the bank! I can’t wait to do another kit from Solo, maybe a strat next time…

This was my first attempt at a build so I went with the pre-finished body. The neck finishing came out really well using Tru-Oil with a total of 5 coats completed with steel wool between coats. Care should be taken to not put too much on the neck connection points so the fit isn’t complicated by having to remove some of the finish for an easy fit up. Everything fit correctly and the soldered connections were easy enough. I made a small error in reading the wiring diagram but the matter was easily corrected with an email to Customer Support.
The completed guitar plays well after setup and sounds exactly as I hoped it would. The total cost is so reasonable for an instrument set up the way I like it and the fun of the build makes it even more fun to play. I’m looking forward to my next build in a month or so.
