On the shop floor of the original Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the earliest Gibson Patent Applied For humbucker™ pickups were wound using imprecise machines, resulting in pickups with varying degrees of output and tone. The 50s Burstbucker represents Gibson’s drive to recapture the magic of the original Patent Applied For humbucker™ pickups. The Gibson 50s Burstbucker successfully captures the subtle variations of true, classic humbucker tone with historically unbalanced coil windings. They produce an airy, full tone, and when overdriven, they achieve a magical distortion with the slightly enhanced highs that made the originals famous.
The new 50s Burstbuckerâ„¢ humbuckerâ„¢ pickups are now wound with plain enamel wire, feature asymmetrical coils, and Alnico 2 magnet for a sweet, vintage-style tone. The 50s Burstbucker is potted to eliminate microphonic feedback and comes equipped with vintage braided two-conductor wiring.
