The Classic!  The 9 inch Smoothing Plane is a multi-purpose plane used for edge and surface planing.  The blade angle can be adjusted in depth to be aggressive and remove a lot of material, or to an extremely fine cut, leaving a surface barely requiring sanding.  This is the hand plane that should be found in every woodworker’s tool box.
