Oxford Guitar Supply’s Universal Dyes are an excellent way to achieve greater color options within your finishing project. The 7 primary colors we offer can be used on their own, or mixed together to create a custom tint. These complex metal dyes have an excellent light-fastness however they are intended only for interior use.

Application examples:

Grain Filler Stain
Oxford Oil Based Grain Fillers come pre tinted but these can be further colored to suit your project. Our Natural Grain Filler accepts dyes very easily and this is a great way to create contrast within the grain pattern and also stain the surface if desired.

Water or Solvent Based Stain
Start with a ratio of 1 ounce of dye to 1 quart of reducer and adjust as necessary. Stain may be applied by spray application or wiped on.

Toner
Tint lacquers (solvent or water-based) or shellac with a ratio of up to 1 oz dye per quart of finish.
