Staggered pole-pieces with chamfered ceramic magnets. Chamfering the pole-pieces focuses the magnetic field giving good highs but still allowing some mids to come through to stop the pickup sounding thin.

For 15$, these sound exactly like you want a single coil to sound. Obviously there is a small bit of buzz with them as with all single coils, but I’ve even considered swapping out some of my fender noiseless pickups for these
