Installed a couple of days ago. Must say impressed and exactly what I was looking for the type of music I’m giging with. The sound is more vintage with a medium output volume compared to what I had which was more modern and punchy and higher gain. Very smooth well balanced tone and the vintage style wiring is awesome. Well worth the money for me. I play in a big band with a genre spread from Count Basie to classic rock. My gigging amp is a Mark Bass 58P which brings out the best of the pickup.

I installed it in a small SoloMusicGear P style bass body. The 51 pickup is mounted in the center, mid-way between the neck and bridge so that the pole pieces are under the strings properly of this short scale bass. The pickup is very articulate in that location. A sweet spot. I’m very impressed with the sound. A big step up from the supplied split pickup with the kit and even brand name ones I tried in it. It has made the bass come alive. One thing I don’t care for is the exposed cloth coated wiring. I tend to rest my thumb on the pickup. I worry I’ll get that all grungy in no time.
