The Solo Music Gear website is excellent and the shipping was very fast! For me, lacquer is not just for musical instruments. I recently got in a new window, and I wanted the new spruce sill to match the old frame, which had been varnished with lacquer (nitrocellulose). I used the clear Oxford lacquer, with a drop of Mixol for colour, and put it on with a brush. When cleaning up some of my mistakes, I observed that the new lacquer was resistant to water and paint thinner, unlike the old lacquer from 1950. Nevertheless, the new lacquer still had the look and feel of the old lacquer, and was different from plastic varnish (polyurethane).

My first experience with lacquer but so far am happy with the results. I thinned it at about 25% and it sprayed nicely with an hvlp gun at about 25psi. The finish looks good but am now in the waiting period for the final level sand/cut/buff.

High quality lacquer, fast shipping, good online support, and a good selection of finishes.

My first experience with NC lacquer and very happy with the results so far. I even use this as a drop fill on finish defects as it is softer than CA to level and sand smooth.

I’ve been using Oxford lacquer for some time now. Just purchased four more quarts, so I must be happy with it.
After having to refinish three guitars, using a different brand that cracked & checked badly after just a few months, I switched to Oxford.
Honestly, I find it quite expensive, compared to other brands. Maybe if it was available in gallon cans, it’d be more affordable. (Most finishing products are much cheaper if bought by the gallon).
I do find it harder to get a flawless shine, but with patience & very light pressure on the buffing wheels it does come up nicely. It sprays beautifully if thinned 25% or more. I always use retarder and have never had a hint of blush.
