Received the guitar two days ago with every intention up upgrading it and keeping my old retired brain happy. Out of the well packed bock and bag the set up was fine. No fret sprouts but non rolled edges. Easy fix with a new box cutter blade and some painters tape and 200 grit sanding paper. The body was in good condition, however, the pickguard and back plate were poorly aligned and required drilling new holes and filling old holes with woodfiller. The pickup cavity was partially covered in shielding pint by someone in a rush which didn’t affect me as I replaced the entire pickups and components with a prewire Fender Gen4 pickguard with an Obsidian wire custom blender I’d had for a few years.The actually stock ceramic pickups sound good and playable though somewhat compressed.
The tremolo was another story. Possibly the cheepest trem I have ever seen. Very small non steel block with chrome bent saddles and plate. The spring claw was clumsily installed with hoes drilled at different heights leaving the claw not level and hence effecting the springs. I filled the holes and replaced with a better claw and foam wrap for the strings. I will replace the entire tremolo.
I have been playing for over sixty years and have acquired some very fine guitars. This was a journey to fined out how good a $347.00 guitar could be. Apart from the neck and body, I find Squier and Yamaha fit and finish to be superior all round. The bag is a nice feature. I just don’t think this is the right guitar for someone with inexperience in correcting mistakes. But perhaps I received a oneoff that had been rushed through the process.
