Description
Setting the correct pickup height is probably one of the most important aspects that will affect your guitar tone. If your pickups are too close to the string, the magnetic pull from the pickups will reduce string vibration, sustain, and could pull the strings out of tune. On the other hand, if your pickups are too far from the strings you’ll start to lose volume, gain and articulation.
Traditional methods have been to use a ruler to set the height but it can be tricky to read those little lines, so why not simply use a tool to take the guesswork out of it?
With the double sided pickup clearance height gauge, it’s as simple as fretting a string at the last fret and sliding one side of the gauge under the string. If you have room between the polepiece and the string, raise your pickup until the gauge just touches the string. If the gauge is interfering with the string, lower the pickup until it just touches. It’s that easy!
Use the larger side 1/8″ end for bass side strings and the smaller 3/32″ end for treble side strings.

Great and handy tool only wish there was a way to hang it, clip it or stick it to something on my bench knowing my clumsy self will lose it regularly.

I took the Hot Tip from Dave’s World of Fun Stuff that his go to tool was available from SOLO, so, off I went to the online shop and shipped one to Australia! Thats what my recommendation means, it was worthy of a trip to the Southern Hemisphere. Nuff Said!

Also first saw the ‘original’ on DWOFS. Ordered three, one for me and two for my guitar associates. Perfect tool for the job, way better than an odd stack of feeler gauges, or trying to eyeball it.

Great tool! DWOFS is where I found out about this very useful and handy tool.

Very handy and easy to use. You can always adjust your pickups a bit higher or lower as needed but it’s nice to have a consistent starting point. Also a shout out to DWOFS for letting us know about this tool.

A must have when you deal with many guitars, speeds up the process. Good quality.

This is a handy-dandy setup tool – much, much easier to work with than fussin’ with a precision ruler (and tiny markings that my 58 yr old eyes have trouble seeing nowadays). As a general statement, most pickups adjusted to these heights will be perfectly fine for most players. Of course, you might need to tweak things to your own preferences, but this height gauge takes away 95% of the guesswork, or the reliance upon thin precision rulers.

I learned about Dave’s (DWDS) that tool and I’m glad it exists. It’s simple and works very well. Thanks Solo, thanks Dave. It makes the a long journey across the Atlantic to Switzerland.

Quick and easy measurement. No mare messing around holding, reading and dropping rulers or messing with feeler gauges.
