Description

The Fret Slotting Miter Box is used to accurately cut fret slots with a fretting handsaw.  The ball-bearing guides make sawing easier and faster by holding your fret saw perpendicular to the fingerboard, and can be adjusted to match the blade precisely.  You can quickly slot any board up to 3″ (76.2mm) wide, with adjustable depth of cut for any fretwire.

Since the Miter Box only accommodates fingerboards up to 1/2″ thick, it will not work for traditional Fender style one-piece necks, or one-piece cigar box guitar necks.

Comes with hex wrenches and screws to mount to your workbench.

  • 12″ (304.8mm) long
  • Since the Miter Box only accommodates fingerboards up to 1/2″ thick, it will not work for traditional Fender style one-piece necks, or one-piece cigar box guitar necks

I just started making mandolin, classic guitar, baritone and other kinds of necks.
This tool holds the fretboard securely and precisely as you saw each fret groove.
Allows the saw to move between rollers ensuring smooth, accurate cuts – eliminates the need to make perfect saw strokes like a miter box.
Loosen the clamps, inch the fretboard forward to the next cut location, clamp it down and do the next cut.
You can contrive templates, load them into the device along with the fretboard and use the template marks or detents to indicate the fret locations.
My productivity went way up, less repeated measurements, allowed for a better ergonomic work setup and helped me proceed with more confidence.

I’ve cut two fret boards with this so far. I make my fret boards from recycled maple and other hardwoods, so the thickness is not always exactly the same. The ability to more quickly and accurately set the slot depth is a dream compared to using my home made jig. There is something pleasing about seeing all the slots cut the same depth and all slots perfectly vertical. The tool comes with 2 Allen keys, one to help set the rollers gap to accommodate the blade width and keep it vertical, and the other to help set the slot depth. And three screws to screw the tool into a base piece of wood. Glad I have it, my anxiety level for cutting fret slots is pretty much gone.
