This kit came together fairly well .Decided to paint the body 6 coats of paint and 8 coats of clear I’m not a pro at this stuff only second build ever and a learning experience. No adjustment made and it sounds great. Can”t wait for another build in the future. One more thing i was missing the springs for the pick up ajustment and use one screw from pick guard for the string tree. For the pick up spring i used the spring of a push button pen that work just fine. All and all it was a great build and great serve thanks Solo guitars

Awesome kit, just what I was looking for. Fit and quality was well beyond what I was expecting in this price range. Will definitely buy another kit from Solo. Customer service was outstanding.

I loved that everything was pre-soldered. Easy to assemble and plays very well. Unbeatable price too.
    Two issues –
1 Unlike the other guitar kit I bought from Solo, The frets needed a lot of work. You may need to invest in a fret file and spend hours making the neck playable.
2 Check the part included right away. I was nearly done with assembly when I realized two of the four springs necessary for the pickups were NOT sent. I called the store. The person who answered said he would put some in the mail and send an email confirmation when it was done. Over THREE WEEKS AGO and I have not gotten confirmation. I had to spend my own money on Amazon to get parts that should have been included from the beginning.

Happy with this bass. The body had a lot of dings and a couple cracks, one of which I had to fill w baking soda & super glue. The fretboard had some dings. The neck is a bit loose in the pocket so I had to shim it w a bit of veneer on either side to centre it, and it didn’t come with pickup springs. BUT, the truss rod works, the tuners are fine, the neck feels good, though the frets needed a bit of cleanup, and the electronics work. I replaced the bridge w a Wilkinson w brass saddles, and finished with Saman walnut stain and CrystaLac sealer and satin finish. Tung oil on the back of the neck and semi-gloss varathane on the headstock front and fretboard (sealing in a waterslide logo and block inlay stickers) and some Rotosound short scale flatwounds. So, it’s a bit of work, but that’s why you’re ordering a $150 kit, rather than a finished bass, right?

My first build and I am extremely happy with the outcome. I used Tru Oil on the neck and Unicorn Spit Stain on the body. Lots of work but definitely worth it.

Kit came together really easy. No time at all to put together. Hand painted by my wife. As a few other reviews mentioned, I am missing the springs for the pick up mounting screws.

Five stars for this kit. What a bargain – especially at the sale price being offered at this time! The kit assembled quickly and needs very little further adjustment to obtain close action and more perfect intonation. Get a few nut slot files for lowering the action at the nut. The neck fit perfectly and there were no flaws in the wood. Fret ends might need a bit of shooting — but not very many and not very much.
The only part that was missing was the screw for the string hold-down for the G and D strings. [Hopefully they’ll read this and send me one!]
Minor pre-drilling errors at the pick guard were easily corrected by using a spring-driven punch to better center either the screw or a drill bit if the hole is a bit tight.
For those who have noted that there were no spring screws for the pickup halves — Solo provided a thick, spring-y piece of black foam with double-sticky tape on one side for this purpose — just as Fender used to do. Cut it in half; center each half on the back side of each pickup and stick one piece over each pickup magnet (on the underside). Use the four black wood screws provided to adjust the pickup heights.
    Oh, and it sounds terrific.

Great customer service, tone pot was faulty and replaced quickly by staff. This was my first build and was a good learning experience finishing the body. Followed advice from staff and used bees wax on the neck. My only real complaint is that the nut is too high, making playing difficult. I have not found suitable files yet to correct this( thus the 3 stars)

    A good overall fun experience.

First the cons: The kit was missing all the screws for the pickguard, the string tee and one tuner screw. It also had 4 extra screws for the pickups. I found replacements at my local hardware store so no big deal there. When I got to the string tee however, I used my replacement screw (after measuring & drilling for proper location) and when I put the strings under the tee, the tension was too much and the screw broke. It wasn’t the screw’s fault – it was big enough. It seemed more like the string tee was too short for the application. I measured the height it needed to be at, and it could have used a 3.5 mm spacer (and a longer screw at that point). I finished assembly w/o the string tee and experienced no buzzing, so I’ll live with it for now. Almost seems like this was a screw bag was from a different kit.

Pros: Just a couple of minor dings on the body. I did a complete fret job but there really wasn’t much to do. Straight neck, levels frets, very minor filing needed. The neck fit was ok, a little loose but not really worth shimming. I kept the electronics stock and they worked fine. No problems with the setup, action was great with no adjustments needed. Intonation just needed a couple of tweaks.

The most important part – it sounds pretty good! Especially considering the cost of the kit. Fits my needs perfectly. Overall, a 4 out of 5, and that’s only because of the missing screws.

This was totally worth it. The basswood body really did have some nice grain to it, the neck came out of the box with perfect frets (something you don’t always get these days on new guitars) and all the parts were there an well packaged. Did a very light stain with an amber stain mixed with a little tobacco, and about 8 or 9 coats of true oil. It looks great. The most time was absolutely spent on the sanding and finishing of the body, with the actual assembly going very fast and running smoothly. I had a local luthier set it up for me to get the action and intonation exactly where I want it and it really plays like a dream.

The sound is deep with the Pj pickups and I’m really surprised at the many different tones this little guy is capable of playing. I’m a short scale and medium scale guy and the 26″ neck is very fast and easy to play. I’ve had it all together and in my little home studio for a couple of days now and I’ve even done some recording with it and I’m really pleased with the audio this bass produces. I’ve got 4 basses that I use for recording and this one fits in so well for deep funk and even driving pick played rock.

All in all a fantastic experience and Solo was right on the spot with any questions I had along the way.

    Would recommend.

Great little bass. Very easy to build, beautiful neck and pickups actually sound great. I will definitely be building more solo kits. Fast delivery too. 5 stars solo.

This was a great kit to build and my first build of an instrument. I totally messed up the finish, but I guess it looks pretty punk rock that way. I’ve added EMI shielding tape to the routing and the electronics have absolutely no hum or buzz. The neck fits snugly in its pocket. The only issues I had with the kit is that the pre-drilled holes for the neck weren’t anywhere close to the same dimensions of the supplied neck plate and there was no screw for the string tree, otherwise the supplied strings were pretty awful and the E string unwound itself as soon as any tension was reached at all. Since a GOOD set of short scale bass strings can cost over fifty bux, I’m not that surprised that these strings aren’t worth a quarter of the kit cost.

I’ve just ordered some D’Addario EXL160s and attached the neck without the neck plate as I’m not really worried about the finish or anything (the predrills did line up between body and neck – thankfully) and I’ve ordered a new black anodized string tree rather than go screw hunting or ask for one.

Nice neck. Made a sweet playing bass. Found out quickly that the back plate holes were not the same as other bolt on neck guitars that I have experience with, therefore I found that it would have been difficult to use something other than the plate that was included. The only thing that I kept on the build from the hardware package. Would love an option to purchase a kit guitar for less with no hardware included.

Bought a b-stock + with some minor cosmetic cracks – fixed it up with some wood filler and light sanding.
I like the matte look so I finished it with a few coats from a satin rustoleum rattle can.
Overall, the bass itself came together quite nicely – very easy build!

Hi, I have made 4 kits before and the wood, neck parts were all there. Great fit with everything 😀. The only issue was one of the tuning peg was grinding which I took apart and put back together and the grinding when away. I think the lock plate was misaligned. Sounds great and plays perfectly.
