   I have been recently trying to find a similar Sire T7 Larry Carlton in Fiesta Red, but there is no availability at all. When I came across this Solo version, my curiosity made me pick one up. It’s really nice! For the price with the bag … it’s a real bargain. The electro type input, roasted neck, really nice fretwork and set up. My only change might be the bridge pickup to one with more treble. And over the Sire, it’s a real bang for the buck. I have only had it for a couple hours, I’m satisfied and feel I made a good buy.

   Don’t let the price fool you. Nothing on this guitar feels cheap.

   The finish looks amazing. The pictures on the site don’t do it justice. It very high quality & comparable to Fender’s higher end MIM guitars.

   All the hardware feels solid (like it can take some abuse) & does its respective job well and without issues.

   The electronics sound great. These Wilkinson ceramic pickups have a nice clear sound (to me) & not that muddy, overly hot quality which is common with inexpensive ceramic pickups. The pots & jack are quality & the signal sounds good without any disruptions (crackles/cutting out).

   The neck is where this guitar really shines. It plays like a dream. Everything feels smooth playing up & down the entire neck. The fretwork is superb, and my hands really appreciate the polished fret ends. The nut is nicely cut, and the satin finish has a pleasant look and feel to it. The neck is on the chunkier side. However, I think T-styles sound better with fatter necks. Nothing too cumbersome. I’m a smaller person (5’8 with small hands) and I get around this neck no problem.

   Overall, I’m beyond impressed.

   I have a similar guitar from Fender’s Vintera Series which cost me $1200 & my Solo blows it away.

   These are phenomenal for the money & will be my go to T-Styles from now on.

   I was looking for a tele but couldn’t afford the big names, nor did I want to take on monthly payments right now. The solution: a Solo guitar I can upgrade over time as needed.

   I really like this guitar. For under $400 I think it hits way above its price point.

   It plays good right out of the gate but I wanted to make a few tweaks right away. Here is how it all went down:

   1. Why I bought the guitar over a kit: this guitar has already solved several of the items on my list of things I would want to upgrade on a kit:
   * It has a GraphTec nut (better tone and tuning)
   * Ferrules so the strings go through the body (better tone and tuning)
   * It has a roasted maple neck – more stable.

   2. Problem around the 19th fret with a fret popping up: the support guys at Solo were great. They tapped it down and glued it: problem solved in 5 minutes.

   3. Intonation: I’m really fussy about it so I knew the stock supplied straight barrel saddles likely wouldn’t work for me. After some difficulty with trying replacement compensated saddles (didn’t quite fit stock bridge) I just opted to replace the whole bridge with a Gotoh In-Tune bridge for about $70. If you can safely operate a screwdriver you can pop it in yourself.

   * The Intonation is now spot on!

   4. Tuning Stability: I found the stock machine heads on this are pretty good. (I’m also really fussy about this, but then who isn’t?). I did try some GraphTec string trees. I can’t say the difference was night and day, but I did notice improvement with the guitar staying in tune. (Friction is the enemy).

   If you are considering changing your machine heads you may want to try this first.

   Also, the guitar wasn’t strung using a luthier’s knot. I’m sure it’s debatable but I’ve always strung my guitars this way and I noticed an improvement when I restrung this guitar with a luthier’s knot. Result: I can bend with reckless abandon and it stays in tune.
   The caveat here is that I haven’t tried it on a gig.

   4. Pick-ups: I tried it out a rehearsal and I was surprised: the ceramic pickups sound better than I expected and I am satisfied with them.

   Having said that, the bridge pick up does have a slight edge to the sound that I’ve heard about in reviews of ceramic pickups; I tamed it with EQ. The sound may work for some tastes; I’d rate the pickups as ‘Good’ but eventually I want ‘Better’ or ‘Best’.
   (I have my eye on the Corrigan/Solo noiseless Tele pickups – (hand wound right here in TO! I have no idea how they will sound but they are priced low enough that I firmly believe they are worth a try, especially because they are a Canadian brand)

   Conclusion: Great guitar for the price. I really like the neck. Highly recommended. (I recently tried a Fender Tele that was going for $1200 and this Solo guitar plays better).

   I love Solo Guitars and their mission. Eventually I hope to take a stab at assembling my own guitar.

   About me: I’ve been playing guitar for 50 years, I retired from playing professionally years ago and just play for fun now. I have a degree in music, played Jazz and RnB, dabbled in classical and now I’m trying to tackle Country. I also taught 40 students a week for years. All that doesn’t really make me an expert but I have some experience so I’m presenting it here to help gauge my review.

   I was looking for a T style guitar and came across Solo’s range whilst browsing. The specs to price seemed like incredible value so decided to make the purchase and would upgrade parts of necessary.

   Guitar arrived immaculate in a gigbag and well packaged. Out of the box I saw there was a set up already done and playability was excellent. I didn’t even need to adjust the truss rod.

   I’m pretty fussy about necks and feel, so usually don’t like buying on the internet but this neck is perfect to me. Roasted maple, every fret rounded, no fret sprout at all and hugely playable.

   Pickups are way better than I assumed. I intended to swap them for alnico but I now intend to leave them as the bite is good and they cut through really well.

   I think these instruments are tremendous value for money and in no way feel or look like budget guitars.

   Absolutely recommend!
