This was the first kit I tried painting and I think it came out great. The instructions were comprehensive, the guitar looks and feels amazing, and the sound is fantastic. I got to learn some new things putting it together about guitars. I’ve been playing it a few days now and have been adjusting things (strap, string height) to make it better for me, but this is a great guitar kit for a beginner or someone looking for a new kind of guitar.

Bought a b+ stock kit of this for my personal collection. First impression was great! Well packaged. The minor flaw was on the side of the fretboard at the nut, so it wasn’t a big issue. One item was missing though. The spring cavity cover. Again, not a big deal. I made my own out of birch plywood. I wasn’t thrilled with the electronics that came with the kit, again, not a big deal. I build guitars from scratch so I had what I wanted on hand. Still working on putting it together as of this writing. I’ve added binding to the edge of the body and painted it white. Ordered better pups for it so I can split the coils. Other than the personal additions to the kit, I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a Warlock without breaking the bank to get one.

I need to revise my review a little. The body and neck are great! Most of the hardware is fine. I didn’t use the supplied pots or pickups. Had planned that. However… the bridge, or as I call it, “The Fraud Rose” was totally unusable. At first blush, it looks fine. Looks can be very deceiving. I discover any of the following until final assembly. First, the little blocks that hold the strings into the saddles were all missing. Contacted Solo about it. They sent new ones. That was great. Then when I went to install them into the saddles, I discovered that the saddles were cast defectively. Where the blocks are supposed to press against the saddles to hold the strings were all angled away from the blocks, no where near the 90 degrees they should have been. Then there’s the “screws” that are supposed to be used to push on the blocks… I discovered they were only threaded enough to stop flush with the inside of the block cavity. So… I ran to the tool shed to get my tap and die set. As I’m threatening the first “screw”, I discovered it wasn’t a screw at all. It was a hollow pipe! And then I discovered that all the pipes were cut to make it appear that they were all the same length when threaded into the saddles.
I don’t blame Solo for any of this, but maybe they need to find a new supplier for their parts.
I ended up getting lucky. The Floyd Rose on my Jackson Randy Rhodes dropped right into place. The Fraud Rose will be rebuilt with new saddles and real screws and installed when it’s time to put new strings on my guitar.

So I purchased this kit wanting to try my luck at a DIY guitar. I have watched many videos on you tube about Solo Guitars, the perfect fit, and quality, I figured let’s do it. Not to mention No One else has a Warlock body kit that I know of. So I get the kit, a day early… in the states.. (need to mention that). Looking over the hardware I noticed, it’s OK, didn’t buy the kit to use the hardware just wanted the wood. But that’s when I started noticing concerns,
The neck. It fit good and snug, not tight … just snug, we’ll call it just right…. perfectly fine. When I looked closer I did noticed the neck didn’t fit flat against the body. The bridge routing…. the route for the bridge is not centered or straight. When drilling the stud mounts the wood chipped off the the body on the right side. Had to use filler wood and epoxy to fix that. The electrical routing…
The rounting for the pots was OK, but the holes drilled for the shafts are not centered. Had an interesting time trying to fit fullsize pots in that pocket. The hole for the 1/4″ jack…. the hole for the 1/4″ jack is drilled to only fit the supplied jack, It too had to be modified. Also had to modify the spring claw due to the holes drilled were again, sized to accommodate the supplied claw.
The last issue I had was with the 4 holes drilled for the neck screws they stripped out when I attempted to bolt the neck to the body. And no, I repeat … NO, I DID NOT USE DRILL, CORDLESS, DRIVER ETC,…. to tighten the screws. Fixing that was fun. I would hope that if Solo is the one cutting, shaping, and drilling these bodies they would pay closer attention to Q.C. If not …. find another supplier.
I’m not giving up on Solo yet, maybe this one just “slipped its way through” just wanted give an honest review.
