Great kit! The neck fits incredibly snug in the neck pocket. I upgraded my kit like crazy. I threw a walnut burl top and headstock plate on. I also cut up the headstock into a more modern shape. I’m replacing the hardware with gold, and replacing the switch and pots with a switchcraft switch and CTS pots. I also replaced the tuners with gotoh. The only thing I had an issue with was my truss rod was super rusted which I don’t understand how that’s possible if this is “New” and “in box”.. I’m not even sure if it works. I’ll be finding out when it comes time to do the fretwork. Other then the truss rod issue and just super small minor damage in transit issues that aren’t even worth disclosing because they can be fixed in a matter of minutes by anyone with a iron and sander. One last thing I didn’t like is how the fretboard was already finished. I wanted to install inlay dots but I’m not going to touch the fretboard if it already has a finish on it. Would love to see this kit offered in other coloured hardware then black. Also BIG shout out to having ALL the necessary holes drilled! Even the bridge ground! In my experience a lot of kits are always missing some critical drill holes but this kit is one of the bests I’ve come across. I didn’t have to do any extra drilling or measuring. I give this kit 4 out of 5 stars just because it doesn’t come in other hardware colors, the bridge, tuners, and pickups are cheap which is morely preference since this kit is only a couple hundred dollars so they can’t afford to give you the best, and the trussrod issue. I am a professional luthier so you can trust my rating. It may would have gotten 5 out 5 stars if it wasn’t for the truss rod because that’s just unacceptable and something I would expect from China or India and for a quarter of price this is.

Unlike the other reviewer, I did not upgrade the kit like crazy and wanted to see what it was like out of the box. I can not, in good faith, recommend this kit to anybody at the price it is at. Wait for a sale.

Solo Music Gear would really benefit this kit by boosting up their Quality Control. Here is a list of why I say this:

    1. Screws.
i)Mixmatched sized screws. Often close in size, but not actually. Bridge screws were also slightly too large, but they worked.
ii) I know how to drill holes. I know how to put a screw in. There is no reason why 3 screws would’ve fallen apart when i barely put any torque into them, besides just poor quality screws.

    2. Pre- drilled holes. The kit did not come with all the pre-drilled holes it boasts in the pictures, and the ones it did have were either splintering on one side (forgivable, it happens), not deep enough or not the right size. I really am more annoyed with the lack of the pre-drilled bridge-ground hole.

    3. The kit, plus everything I got, was lazily tossed into a box with a light wrapping around everything wooden. This was not enough to prevent a lot of bumps and scratches. Yes, most of them could be sanded out, however there are some scratches and dents that I’ll have to live with. I worry about what could happen to someone else.

    4. I assume ALL pickups come with springs that you place underneath to help adjust the height. These were missing. If I’m wrong, ignore this.

that being said, the neck was beautiful. The kit setup well. The locking tuners, despite being cheap, work well, and I was impressed. The bridge leaves much to be desired, but they work.

The pre-wired aspect was done properly, and the wiring diagram was simple to follow. Everything worked fine. Fair warning, my first kit from solo had broken electronics (I mention because of the obvious quality control issues).

At the end of the day, after everything was fixed and set up, the kit out of the box sounds AWESOME. A great guitar for noodling and practicing, and the fanned frets provide a great conversation starter, hahah. If you can justify the price, go for it. I just won’t recommend it at the price. If you do get it, it’s pretty cool.

Not a bad kit if you have some experience setting up guitars and a little bit higher than basic understanding of the construction of guitars in general. I bought this kit and had to send the first one back. The heel on the neck was high and needed to be shaved down some, not too big of an issue, but the truss rod nut was rounded out some and the zero fret was the same height as the first fret. Customer support was not a challenge to getting a new kit. I just snapped a couple pictures of my issues and sent them to support and they were quick to getting me a return label and sending a new kit. BE SURE to assemble the kit to verify fit and construction before modifying or doing any finish work (general idea with any kit though). The new kit (which I ended up finishing) went together fairly well with the exception of one of the screws breaking off in the neck. While probably my own fault, I do attribute some of the problem with how cheap the hardware is. I was only using a hand screw driver when it broke off. I ended up filling the holes and making mine a set neck. Been strung up with 10-52 ga strings for a couple weeks and played everyday with no issue yet. The pre wired electronics are alright, but worth upgrading (at least the tone pot). The push/push tone pot I have is really loose and feels very loose. This may not be an issue for some but it seems like when I touch it i’ll just spin it like a top. CTS push/pull are only $10-$15 on amazon so easy upgrade imo. The pots come pre wired and the wiring is neat and tidy. Could just use a little touch up on the solder work from being loose in a bag and having the wires wriggle around a bit. The neck pickup doesn’t sound half bad. The bridge pickup sounds a bit too thin for me so I will be trying to find an upgrade for it, but it is not terrible. The coil split is a bit of the mark with them though. A lot more of the sound drops out with them split than I like. I will have to try a few different resistors after I put the new pot in to see if I can’t balance that out a bit. Not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind. The body/ neck look and feel GREAT. If you put care into your finish work this will be a nice guitar. Last issue I had was that the holes for the strap buttons were a little large. This was a super easy fix with some toothpicks and wood glue though. Not out of the ordinary, but I did have to clean up a little fret sprout (it wasnt band but makes the neck feel nicer if done) and there were a couple frets that small high spots. I know I mentioned about the pickups, but imo it will be worth the money to upgrade the tuners and or the bridge pieces before the pickups. Not something you need to do right away as the ones that come with work fine. I usually have those two parts be the first, if any, upgrades I make to a guitar. If you are looking to buy this kit you can be sure that if you take your time and research what to look for and how to fix small issues that might arise, you will be happy with this kit. Remember customer support is there to help you should you need them. Don’t shy away from this kit if you are willing to spend the money, but be aware that it may or may not be a little bit more work than some other kits.

I’m super happy with this kit. Some of the pieces are on the cheaper side, but that’s to be expected from something at this price. It didn’t take too much work to set up, I’d call it a fairly easy kit build, especially considering the pots and switch are prewired.

The pickups sound fine. Not amazing, not terrible. Everything feels very nice and didn’t need much work beyond finishing. No fret sprouts, nothing too high or low. I did need to lower the nut slots because of the strings I use, but that’s super hard to mess up because of the zero fret.

Overall, it’s a great kit. I did minimal work over 3 or 4 days and now I have a guitar that looks and plays like something much more expensive. If you want a multiscale and know how to put together a guitar, go for it!

ps: All I would add is a pickguard. Any pickguard will have to be custom cut because of the pickup angles, so it would be nice to have even a simple one included. Thats a minor gripe though.
