I think if a newer version of this kit comes out when restocked it will be better, in reality i would give it 3.5 stars…
My son is happy with his les paul custom kit now that its all together and working but there was much more little things not quite right compared to the set neck sg kit with maple top i got for myself…
-The neck had about an 1/16 gap in the neck pocket or either side of the neck,
-The ground wire to the bridge must have been an after thought, no wire was included for that and the hole not drilled,
-The electronics were have soldered together but backwards and didnt match the wiring diagram at all….once dismantled all the pieces and soldering, it went together fine,
-Whoever was supergluing the plastic nut on was having an off day at the factory, the was glue run off and it was crooked and the left some finger skin on the nut lol,
-The set neck part that goes under the front pickup was too tall foe the pickup to sit in the hole,
-And the only thing i was really worried on is a crack that wraps around the back of the neck from fret board to fret board at about the 10th or 12th fret….but after stringing up and adding a vibrato tremolo system the neck is still holding and square woohoo,
The mahogany body was a little extra rough, but thats fine, the palm sander went through a bit more paper for it
Again, it took more work then should have been required but its now playing

My favorite guitar from SOLO thus far. I would say 4 pain in the butt guitars is fair for this one, I had to modify the neck to get the neck pickup in and it looked like it was cut for a veneer body. I have had to tear it down 3 times now to upgrade the hardware nuts and parts. I really enjoy SOLOs stuff but the lack of being able to just order it with upgraded parts, even at an extra cost, is frustrating and almost makes me want to put 4 stars.
IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO ASSEMBLE GUITAR KITS GO TO BRAD ANGOVE YOUTUBE AND WATCH HIS TUTORIALS SAVE YOURSELF ALOT OF TRIAL AND ERROR, HE LITERALLY SHOWS YOU 90% OF THE WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
SOLO PLEASE ADD UPGRADEABLE KITS TO ALLOW US TO ADD BETTER HARDWARE AND ELECTRONICS, MY WIFE HATES I HAVE 2 BOXES OF EXTRA PARTS FLOATING AROUND BECAUSE I UPGRADE THE STUFF AFTER I GET IT FROM Y’ALL

This was my first build. It was not set up for a beginner. The first problem I found was they sent a pre soldered wireing harness for a standard 2 pickup sg and this is a 3 pickup sg,which meant I had to de solder it completetly and start from scratch. They send 2 tone and 2volumes,you have to convert 1 tone to a volume, you do this by removing the green thing from the pot.then just re solder up as the wiring diagram shows. This works great.
The other thing to note is (which I found out when I was doing the finale set up) s there is no slope on the neck. This makes it very hard to set up,it give you very little room for ajusting the the bridge. To fix this by sanding the heal o f the neck till you have a bit of slope before you glue it together.
Over all in the end you end with a nice nice guitar, you may want to upgrade the pick ups and the tuners. It was fun to put together.I have upgraded hard ware on guitars before and done many set ups

Overall I like it except that the pre-wired pots, switches, & jack are different then the diagram, it would be better not pre-wired at all then the way it came. Other people experienced this too. It’s very frustrating but I don’t expect any improvement from Solo.

Hi,
This is my 19Th Solo Kit. Yes I am a fan. Again it was a very fast shipment, confirmed my order on Thursday and it arrived on the Saturday morning, WOW!
Again the packaging was top notch and all the parts were in perfect condition, no scratch no dent.
The body was just great, nicely cut with clean cavities and perfect leck pocket. The neck was very straight with leveled fretswith smooth fret ends, nice.
The alignment is perfec with the bridge and tailpiece post holes, the pickup polepieces are centered with the strings. The neck extension was 1/16” proud of
the body top. OK this was a 5 minutes fix with a sharp chisel. I did not used the hardware and electronics as I had my plan. Changed all the hardware to black chrome
Body Mods:
Enlarged the bevels around the body to make it look more like the Gibson and increase the roundovers to 1/4, Shavec the lower cutaway for better access.
Added wear pattern.
Neck Mods:
Shaved it a bit and also carved the heel.
Electronics:
3 volumes Push / Push A500K pots with brass sleeves and shaft with 1.1 resistor on coil split lug to groung to keep some signal plus treble bleed.
The have independent wiring.
1 tone B500K pots with brass sleeve and shaft. Vintaged wired.
Pickups, Neck and middle 8.6 K and bridge 9,6 K all alnico V hot vintage open coil black bobbins rewired to keep the screw polepieces active in coil split mode.
With the 3 independent volumes with coil splits I do have an endless selection of tones, great! The control cavity is full…
Finish:
After sanding all the poly seal i applied 2 coats od Samans water based black stain then aged it and and buffed with grey 3M Scotch Brite pads. Applied 5 coats of Samans water base flat varnish buffing with 3M Scotch Brite grey pads between each coat and at the end on the body and neck.
I ebonized the fretboard with Higgins India Ink after cleanibg the surface with naphta and light 400 grit sanding then applied 1 coat of lemon oil. Buffed with 3M Scotch Brite white pad.
The set up was nice and easy, the frets needed only a light polish, only the D and G string slots needed to be filed down a bit. The neck relief, action and intonation were very easy to set. She is very nice to play without any fret buzz or choking notes.
All in black she looks quite mean and also soung fantastic. Is was a fub satisying build.
Thanks again Solo, the No 20 is in the plans,,,!
