Got the kit in good shape. The neck is nice, decent fretwork, and it is straight. The body is 3 piece and the wood is lighter in color than I was expecting which was a nice surprise. Neck fit in the pocket great, but there was some tearout or sloppiness in the route for the neck pocket that shows a bit of a gap.
I’ve not yet done more than dry fitting, but the bridge seems pretty good, tuners are your normal closed back specials, pots are 16mm alpha style but with 3/8″ bushings instead of 1/4″ and they come wired up already. I’m not going to use them as I wasn’t fond of having a linear taper pot for volume.
All in all, good value for money, a great platform to start from, the body and neck are the most important bits and they are good.

While looking at the local L&M at a yellow ’50’s re-issue LP jr. priced at $5k + I thought,” I could put together a reasonable facsimile of this guitar for under $500!” so I bought the kit. I was impressed with the mahogany body, and the neck looked pretty good except for the end finishing of the frets. It does have some kind of a finish on it. The end product is a pretty nice guitar, including a Gibson pickup shop dogear with Bourn full sized 500k pots and an orange drop .047 capacitor.

This is my first build project and I am in the middle of it right now.
I am enjoying it so much!
I’m exited by it by orders of magnitude above what I thought it was gonna be.
The kit arrived as advertised and looking good.
Everything lines up and fits correctly.
The neck, head stock, and fingerboard woods are beautiful and fit perfectly. I plan to apply just oils there to show them off.
The body is made of 3 pieces and the grain and tones are noticeable different between each.
The joints are tight, but not parallel to the neck alignment, making a weird visual effect as if something was crooked. (It’s not)
This is not a problem unless I was planning to apply a finish that lets the wood see through.
I’m gonna try different stains and paints on spare blocks of mahogany before I decide on the finish.
All the other parts are, as I expected, low quality but that’s OK and it lets me makes mistakes without wasting tons of money.
I will upgrade the nut and tuning machines for sure.
I’ll decide about the pickup and rest of the electronics once I assemble it and hear how these sound.
I am extremely happy with the product and the project and I can’t wait to see where this takes me next.

This is my kit No 10 from Solo (yes I am sold). As usual this was a very fast shipment with great packaging.
All parts arrived in perfect condition. On the body the wood grain is fantastic and the joints are invisible.
The same goes for the neck, it had a minor back bow fixed with the truss rod. Frets are levelled and needed
some light end filing and polishing (normal). The nut was cut to perfection! The fret board looks great after
oiling. I used only the bridge, strap pins neck plate and the jack plate, replacing all the balance of hardware and
electronics.
Modifications:
Body: turned it into a double cut style and rounding the sharp point on the lower horn. Also increased
the corner radius from ¼’’ to 3/8’’. On the top I lowered the radius by 3/32’’ so it makes a little step.
Cut a cavity for a neck pick up. Had a lot of fun with the jig saw and the router.
Hardware: installed Wilkinson vintage tuners with conversion bushings.
Electronics: changed the bridge pick up to 8.8 K alnico 5 P90 dog ear. Added a neck Strat pick up alnico
7.8 K and made a dog ear mounting plate for it. Added a volume pot for the neck PU, push push type
500K so when activated both PU are in series, nice volume boost. The bridge volume is a regular 500K
Pot. Both are wired independent to work as blend. Master tone is a 500K with .22 cap. All pots are
full size. I did use the Seymour Duncan diagram for Jazz Bass with the series/parallel option.
Finishing: after a lot of sanding I applied 2 coats of black Samans water bases stain, then sanded the top
of the body and the back of the neck to reveal the wood grain then applied 1 coat of white Samans
water based stain. Sanded again with 3M grey pads to smooth all surfaces and added 4 coats of
Samans flat water based varnish.
Final assembly and set up was a breeze. She looks great and plays fantastic. Very happy again with
a great Solo kit.
Now I will let her rest for a few days then put good strings and touch-up the fine tuning.
Thanks again Solo for No 1 service and fun modding kits.

Haven’t put it together yet because I’m still applying the finish but everything looks good. Nice tight neck joint. Neck is nicely finished, no suprises there. I have bought 2 necks previously from solo and had zero issues with them. Will probably replace pots. I will see how the bridge works.. I have a badass one somewhere from another project otherwise. The body seems nicely routed.
The great thing about Solo is that the kit arrived in a couple days with a reasonable shipping charge unlike other places like stew### or guitar fet###. Those were my go-to’s before I found Solo. Now I haven’t used them since. No more waiting weeks and weeks and paying additional duty etc. What a relief!

There are a couple things that need to be addressed, my kit need a neck shim to get the action down below 8/64″ and in the list of upgrades it says to use a 1 11/16″nut wich will not work, the string spacing is to wide, top and bottom E strings are to close to the edge of the neck.
